A Note from the Director

"As Long As I Live" explores themes of family, loss, regret and forgiveness. My goal was to dive into these themes through a stylistic, emotional and cinematically ambitious lens. I also wanted to create a consistently engaging piece using the music, editing style and pacing, to make the audience feel like they experienced a wholistic journey with a finite vision and an emotive feeling. I really hope everyone who watches it can appreciate the work that we have put in using the resources that we have had. I think the final product includes a soulful and aspirational quality that reflects the determination we had to create something serious and showcase our talent. We cannot wait to share it.

FOCUS

The relationship between Arthur and George and how they learn to grow from their mistakes: George learning that anger and hate is not always the way forward and Arthur learning to emotionally open up and find salvation. Arthur is viewed by his son as the internal monster of the story, personifying the toxic masculine role, and the fight to overcome this and “cure” his son of these flaws before it's too late is a key point.

TONE

Due to the nature of the relationships and the current climate of the environment, the world is portrayed through a dark, mysterious and tense lens. Nevertheless, the crux of it is something that is emotionally grounded and relatable bringing the emotional drama. Although the world and their relationship has fallen apart, there is still a glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel, even in the worst possible situation. The idea of not being as emotionally open with a father figure and the struggle to overcome that is something that we want to explore and dive deeper into.
